Dan Hartman – Died in 1994
The onetime Edgar Winter Group bassist changed direction and found fame cutting soulful dance tunes. He enjoyed his biggest success with “Instant Replay” and “I Can Dream About You.” He also penned James Brown‘s Rocky IV-soundtrack hit “Living in America.” He died of a brain tumor March 22nd, 1994 at 43. Born in 1950.
Gregg Allman – 69 years old
The singer, keyboard player and guitarist leads The Allman Brothers Band, which he co-founded with his late brother Duane. The Allmans were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995. He was briefly married to Cher. His 2012 autobiography is titled My Cross to Bear. Born in 1947.
Jim Morrison – Died in 1971
The rebellious son of a naval officer remains one of rock’s iconic figures. He sang all and wrote many of The Doors‘ songs. “The Lizard King” was noted for his intense live performances and run-ins with police, including an obscenity charge in Miami. He died mysteriously in Paris on July 3rd, 1971 at 27. Val Kilmer played him in Oliver Stone‘s Doors bio-pic. Born in 1943.
Sammy Davis Junior – Died in 1990
The singer-dancer-actor was a charter member of Frank Sinatra‘s Rat Pack. He died of throat cancer May 16th, 1990 at 64. Born in 1925.
