1969-Paul McCartney death rumors flourish in New York as W-A-B-C radio’s Roby Yonge devotes most of his overnight shift to clues about the Beatle. The station’s management, unhappy with the sensationalism, fires him while he’s on the air, has a guard escort him from the building and puts a substitute on the air.

When he succumbed to a drug overdose July 26th, 1990 at 37, Brent Mydland became the third Grateful Dead keyboardist to die (after Pigpen and Keith Godchaux) Born in 1952.
Rabbit (John Bundrick) – 68 years old
The Houston-born keyboardist got his first break playing on hometown pal Johnny Nash‘s “I Can See Clearly Now.” He has since toured with Eric Clapton, Donovan and The Who. Born in 1948.
Lee Loughnane – 70 years old
The Chicago co-founder plays trumpet and co-wrote “Call on Me” and “No Tell Lover.” Born in 1946.
Elvin Bishop – 74 years old
The blues-rock guitarist left The Paul Butterfield Blues Band to start his own self-named band with vocalist Mickey Thomas in the ’70s. His “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” was a Top 5 hit in ’76. Born in 1942.
Steve Cropper – 75 years old
The Booker T & the MGs/Blues Brothers guitarist — who is also a songwriter and record producer — played on tracks by many Stax Records stars. He co-wrote “Dock of the Bay” with Otis Redding and “Knock on Wood” with Eddie Floyd.
Manfred Mann (Michael Lubowitz) – 76 years old
The South African keyboardist moved to England in 1961. His self-named band evolved from jazz rock to British Invasion pop with such U.S. hits as “Do Wah Diddy Diddy,” “Sha La La,” “The Mighty Quinn” and, in a ’70s rock comeback as Manfred Mann’s Earth Band, a chart-topping cover of Bruce Springsteen‘s “Blinded by the Light.” Born in 1940.
